The supplement issued with this number contains, “ A Strange Story of Two Sisters,” “An American upera,” and “A Novel Contest. ” On our fourth page will be found, “Candidates Addresses to the Electors,” “She Would Make No Discount,” “Rough on Rats,” and other items of interest. The following are the tenders received by Mr A. Y Ross for the erection of a shop for Mr J. E. Kenny, the candidates for municipal honors have agreed to meet the burgesses on Monday night in M‘Farlane’s Hall, to explain their intentions and views with respect to the requirements and necessities of the Borough At the time when we first mooted the qm s tion, we felt assured that our sugge-timi would be taken up. It is clearly the duty of those who aspire to municipal honors and ask for the suffrage of their fellow-townsmen that they should mike some public declura tion as to the line of policy they mean to adopt with respect to the leading and most prominent measures now before the public, such as road construction, harbor improvements, water supply, bridge construction, &c , and above all we hope to hear the opinion of all the candidates clearly expressed upon the Common-Shelton question, as to which side they mean to pledge themselves to support. When the candidates have clearly expressed their views upon the above questions in particular and other things in general, then we shall be in a belter position to judge of lhe merits and de-merits of the different candidates.

Up to late yesterday afternoon there were only about half-a-dozen applications to become members of the Fire Brigade. We can only express our regret at this, as we fully expected to see a great many more roll up. After the strenuous efforts that have been made by the Borough Council in getting the engines, etc., into working order, things do not present a ve y bright prospect of one being formed.at all. A considerable and vexatious loss of time was occasioned yesteiday m -rning to professional and business men iu lhe K. M. Court, on account of no J P.’s being in attendance to hear the several cases set down for hearing. We know not where lhe fault lies, but must say that things are very badly managed when a number or pr tfessional gentlemen, business and woik:ug men are kept loitering about the R.M. Court, wasting valuable time, through the negligence of some responsible parties.
