(From our own Correspondent.) LONDON, August 30. At the wool sales to-day, 11,300 bales were offered. The market was steady, but the demand was inactive. Since the opening of the series, 12,530 bales have been withdrawn, out of a total of 102,000 bales catalogued. August 31. Reports to haqd from Java give an estimate of 30.000 (sic) as the number of lives lost by the tidal wave recently experienced on the coast of that island. The difficulty which has arisen between Italy and Morocco has now been settled, the Sultan, Miley Hassan, having sent an ample apology to the Italian Government, At the wool auction to-day there was good competition for the various lots offered. The catalogue comprised 10,400 bales. September 1. Mr Lowther was elected to-day by a large majority to fill the vacancy in the representation of Rutland in the House of Commons. Seven Irishmen have been arrested at Glasgow, charged with complicity in the blowing up of a gasometer at the Glasgow Gasworks in January last. At to-day’s wool auction, 95,000 bales were offered, The tone of the sale was rather firmer. VIENNA, September 1. Count Colnoky has arrived at Salsburg, and has had a protracted interview with Prince Bismarck, who is now on a visit to that town, CAIRO, September Ist. It is estimated that since the outbreak of the cholera epidemic, 57,000 persons have died from the disease in this country. PARIS, September Ist.
