We have to thank our obliging postmaster for kindly sorting the mails last Sunday. A first meeting of the creditors in the estate of Mr D. M. Orr, was held yesterday afternoon. Through pressure on our space we are reluctantly compelled to hold over letters from “ Charles Thorpe ” “ Truth.” and W. L. File ; also mail notices, and several other matters. Mr Philip Lange has purchased from Mr W. E. Cross, the right of supplying the Standard to town and country subscribers All subscriptions must be paid to him, including those due tu the 31st August. Mr M'Donald has written to the County Council to the effect that the Government have in hand a River’s Bill for the Colony, which will be printed and circulated during the recess. This is the more acceptable as by a clerical error in the date of the exhibition of the Cook County River’s Bill that measure cannot now become law during this session, and the Government Bill will repeal the present local laws relating to River conservation. Letters of naturalisation has been issued to How Chow, farmer of Gisborne, George Alexander Smith has been gazet* ted a member of the Waikato Road District Board, Cook County. The destruction which untrained dogs commit among flocks of sheep is amply demonstrated by the fact that Mr Percival Bprker has found no less than 49 sheep dead which have been worried by dogs. This has caused him to wage a war of extermination against all the trespassing canines he fall in with on his iand. The announcement that he has already destroyd 43 dogs will act as a sufficient warning to all those whose dogs may have a sneaking regard for mutton. We have seen recently the advertisement of a firm called “ Hamer and Tong.” This beats “ Sly, Dibble and Co.” Singer’s Sewing Machines, 2s 6d per week. Repairs, parts, &c., to be had at the Singer Monufacturing Company’s Depot, Gladstone Road. Feeble ladies, aged children, weakly children, and persons of sedentary habits all need Hop Bitters daily. Read and believe. Oh, how refreshing, palatable, and reviving is a draught of cool water with Hop Bitters in it, to a fever patient. See.
