(Fbom our own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, Friday. Tn the Legielative Council on on the motion of the Hon. Sir George Whitmore the return of Public Works expenditure in various Counties ware ordered. The Prisons Bill passed through Committee. Hutchinson’s motion for leave to introduce a Bill to repeal the Contagious Diseases Act was negatived. The Companies Act Amendment Bill was read a first time. The debate on Local Government was resumed. Mr Levestam supported Mr Montgomery’s resolutions. Ho objected to the compact made with Canterbury members about the West Coast Railway. Mr Thompson said Otago could get on very well if left to itself. He would support the resolutions, but preferred complete separation for both Islands. Mr Fish supported the resolution as affirming a principle. He would like insular separation with Federal Government at Wellington. Mr Munro opposed the resolutions, considering that the County system answered well, except for want of funds.
