ORMOND BALL.

(fbom otn own cottHEsroNDskT.) The ball in aid of the Poverty Bar Hospital, came off in Bruce's Hal], Ormond, on Wednesday night last, the 27th inst. It was a success, mainly owing to the efforts of the managing Committee, Messrs W E. Cooper, A. Bond, S. Heath, and J. Cooper. Messrs Currie and Hogan, the lessees of the hall, kindly lent it free for the occasion, and it was gaily decorated with flags, which were very generously lent by Sam. M. Wilson, of the Albion Club Hotel. The catering was in the hands of Mr. Haydon, of Waerenga a-hika, who, although the space at his command was very small, managed to please everybody. Forty couples were present, and one and all thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Dancing was kept up until an early hour ori Thursday morning. Mr. J. Cooper officiated as M.C. and he his duties in a most pleasing manner, in fact, the way the arrangements were carried out, wa- a credit to those concerned in it. Towards the close of the programme, Master Graham Hig. gins danced a hornpipe in a masterly manner. This youg man is the makings of a first class step dancer. Messrs Hatten and Peters’ coaches left Gisborne at 6 p.m. on Wednesday evening, conveying passengers to the hall, and returned to town at 3 a.m. ou Thursday morning.
