CORRESPONDENCE.

We do not hold ourselves responsible for the opinio* ■ expressed by our correspondents). :o: TO the editor. Sir,— For the information of the would-be gentleman who signs himself “ A Practical Catholic ” in your issue of the 14th I desire to say that his effusions, and himself, are held in the highest contempt by a grateful public, who are silenced by charity and prudence alone.—l am &c., Ringleader. Gisborne, 15th June 1883.

Sir,— For some unexplained reason, several leading members of our community have for some time past most distinctly and firmly refused to contribute to our Hospital funds, in one or two cases referring to the general arrangement as most unsatisfactory. It is much to be regretted that any charitable aid should be lost, as it appears in your report of last issue that the credit balance was very low’, viz., £2O odd against some £157 of liabilities. If any one has legitimate reason to complain, why not publicly or otherwise make some statemeat of the grievance, so that if possible it may be remedied. The annual election of members comes off shortly, and then it is to be hoped that there will be persons nominated and eleded t quire into the whole of the present system of management, &c., and prevent, if possible, any deviation of charitable assistance from so worthy a cause as providing for the sick and afflicted.—l am, Ac., CIVIM.
