MR. W. ADAIRS BALL.
Last night it became oar duty in the’ordlnary routine of work to visit and report upon the ball given by Mr. Wm. Adair, in Parnell and Boylan s Hall, To commence with the decorations. We found the Hall had been most gracefully decorated with ferns and evergreens tastefully and pleasingly arrayed around, whilst bannerets and flags were so hung and dispersed as to give a most pleasing and artistic effect to the whole place, gave mo the highest credit to Mr. Stukey’s efforts. Mr. Cox, piccalo; Mr. Faram, cornet ; and Mr. Scott, piano, played the d mces in such masterly style as cou’d scarcely he equalled, and never surpassed. Mr Skeet, as M.C., performed his offire in such a manner as to deserve the highest credit. The catering was under the superintendence of Mr J. Erskine, and the way this was carried out shows the discernment of Mr Adair in his selection of Mr James Erskine for this important part of his entertainment, as we never remember to have seen the arrangements for catering carried out in such an able manner. The programme was of a very varied character, and could not fail to please all tastes, amt the guests who had responded to invitations were so numerous that the well-known dimensions of the capacious Hall failed to meet the requirements of this large gathering. Mr W. Adair and his lady might be seen endeavoring to make all comfortable. How well they succeeded, we need not say. Our space being so limited, and the printer su pressing and ill-tempered, we must content ourselves with saying that Mr. Adair’s ball has so far excelled all others, that it will be remembered as Me ball of Gisborne.
