POVERTY BAY HOSPITAL.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Hospital Committee wai held last evening. Present: Venerable Archdeacon Williams (in the chair), Dr. Pollen, Messrs Brown, Chrisp, Butt, and McKay. MONTHLY REPORT. The Wardsman reported : Admissions, 9 ; discharged, 9; remaining, 11. There was one death during the month. The patients’ fees received amounted to £2 ss. The report was adopted. ANNUAL SUBSCRIPTIONS. Mr. E. K. Brown reported that the result of the canvass for subscriptions was satisfactory, a sum of over £4O having been collected. This had helped to reduce liabilities accruing from the previous month; but at present thete was only a credit balance of £2O Is 2d, against which there were liabilities of £157 12s lid. He expected a subsidy of £lOO for the June quarter, which sum, however, ought not to be taken into account in dealing with the financial position of the institution, as it would not be paid until after the annual meeting of the committee. He should like to see a further effort made in collecting the subscriptions, and expressed a hope that they would have a satisfactory balance-sheet to present at the meeting. REVISION OF RULES. The sub-committee appointed for ths purpose brought up their report, and submitted new and amended rules, which with slight alterations were passed, and ordered to be printed. Hospital Grounds. Mr. McDowell’s term of oocupation having expired, it was resolved after some slight discussion, that the v en. Archdeacon Williams and Mr. E. K. Irown be empowered to make the best i rangements for the Utilization of the Hospital grounds. Patients Fieb. Captain Chrisp said that on investigating the Hospital books he found that the sum of £l5O was owing to the institution from patients who had received treatment. He thought it was time that some step were taken for the recovery of amounts due by defaulters. Many of the debtors were in a Eosition to pay. On the of Mr. E. L Brown, seconded by Mr. Butt, it was resolved, that Captain Chrisp and the Secretary be appointed a committee to confer with Mr. Nolan on the subject of suing defaulters. It was resolved that before undertaking any work exceeding £5 in value, that estimates be first submitted to the Committee. SPECIAL MEETING. It was decided to hold a special meeting on Monday 2nd for the purpose of approv ing the annual reports, prior to presentation at the meeting of subscribers to be held on July 4th, at the public school.
