GISBORNE LICENSING COURT.

The above Committee met at the Courthouse at noon on Thursday, Present—Mr E. K. Brown (chairman), Messrs. Chrisp, Tutchen and Lewis, Sergeant Bullen, inspector of licensed premises, opposed the granting of 12 o’clock licensing in all iultances, as it Was prejudicial to the morality and well-being of the young mon of the town. In his opinion, it was in no way conducive to the comfort and convenence of the public, but only to excessive drinking and immorality. Mr Brassey, who had been retained on behalf of the publicans, addressed the Court in favor of 12 o’clock licenses, saying that it was necessary for the convenience of travellers and passengers. As to the excessive drinking and immorality caused by late licensed houses, if any proprietor failed to conduct his house in a proper manner, the police had their remedy. It surely was most, impolitic to discommode the public on the frivolous grounds stated. The Inspector said he could substantiate his objections, and referred the committee to his statement made at the last meeting, which would be found in the minutes, ALBION CLUB HOTEL. Proprietor, 8.
