LONDON SEED TRADE. Messrs. John Shaw and Sons, of 37, Mark Lane, London, through their agent, Mr Leonard Blake, of Christchurch, report that the market during the mouth ending April 19th, was at its heighth. Fine open weather setting in soon after the Easter holidays were over, brought on an active sowing demand for every description of farm seeds, under the influence of which the small stocks remaining were rapidly diminishing, and as imports of foreign clove r seeds had ceased, a much firmer feeling had developed itself. In fact, red clover must be quoted at 6s, and alsyke, 5s to 7s per cwt. dearer. Fine rapeseed being scarce, and in fair demand, was 2s to 3s per quarter dearer. Canary was quiet at the late advance. Hemp seed was very firm. A substantial rise had occurred in blue peas. The imports into the United Kingdom of clover and grass seeds during March were 46,059 cwt*., value £131,995, against 98,965 cwts., value £234,439 in March, 1882. These figures speak for themselves, and show that ■o stocks will be left over.
