BOROUGH COUNCIL.

Tn usual fortnightly meeting of the * Borough Council was held in the Council Chambers on Tuesday evening last. Present —His Worship the Mayor (in the chair), Cra. Lewis, Townley. Whinray, Tutchen, Chrisp, Brown, and Smith. Mr D. Hepburn was sworn, and took his seat. A letter from Mr C. H C. Webb, of the Standard Office, res[ acting the Council’s advertising, was received and ordered to be acknowledged. One thousand feet of totara was ordered from Napier to be used for curbing. It was carried that his Worship and Mr Townley confer with the County Council with a view of drawing up a joint petition to the Government for the grant of £4,000 nnder the Roads and Bridges Act, for the construction of the proposed Turanganui Bridge. An honorarium of £42 10s was voted to his Worship the Mayor to defray his expense- , re the Governor’s reception. A unanimous vote of thanks was awarded te the various committees fer their energetic

services and exertions in making the reception such ft success. A. McDonald, Esq., our has been requested to meet the Borough Council next Tuesday, to confer with the councillors as to what measures should be brought forward for the good of the district.
