BOROUGH COUNCIL ELECTION.

Is spite of the public announcement made on Saturday to the effect that the polling for the election of a Borough Councillor would not take place until Tuesday, the partisans of the respective competitors were early on the move on Monday, Mr. Hepburn’s friends being especially bury. Whether the above mentioned public announcement was made wilfully ornot we cannot say but will leave our readers to judge for themselves by the tone of the same, and the absence of any explanation. But the voters of Gisborne are not easily hoodwinked, as is clearly shown, by the following figures:— D. Hepburn ... ... 226 W. Brassey ... ... 140 Majority 86 We congratulate Mr. Hepburn on this flattering majority, and believe he is the right sort of man to look after the interests of his fellow townsmen, and has not sought the responsible and honorable position of Councillor for interested motives. Although Mr. Hepburn’s seat in the Council is only assured for such a short duration, yet we have little doubt, judging by the strong support he has just received, about his re election. By Mr. Hepburn’s return we believe the ratepayer, have secured the services of a straightforward and serviceable representative.
