HOSPITAL COMMITTEE.

The usual meeting of the above was held last evening. Present—Rev. Mr McAra, Messrs Brown, Butt, Pollen, and McKay. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The following communication from the Under Colonial Secretary was read: — “ Iu ills report upon the Gisborne Hospital, with which ho states that on the whole he was favorably impressed. Dr. Grabham makes the following observations as regards , the closets, and the typhoid fever patients—

The presence in the hospital of several patients suffering from Typhoid fever renders this a matter of some importance. Typhoid Patibkts ;—“ Although it may ' be safe to treat single cases of typhoid fever in a general ward, it is improper to accumulate any number there, ana to risk thereby the infection of the nurses or the other patients. I saw three individuals suffering from this disease, and regret that they were not in the well-arranged fever hospital. ” The Colonial Secretary desires me to call the attention of the committee to these remarks in the hope that it will be be able to carry the suggestions of the Inspector of Hospitals into effect, at an early date. It was rasolved that the Secretary acknowledge the receipt of the letter, and to state that the recommendations re closet will be complied with ; and that in reference to the latter portion that the Committee were fully aware of the necessity of placing fever patients in the ward erected for the purpose, but that they had been unable to make the necessary provisions for want of funds. The Wardeman’s report was read and i adopted. It showed 11 admitted; 11 discharged ; present remaining, 9. With reference to overdue accounts for patients' fees, they were handed over to the secretary for immediate collection. Accounts to the amount of £93 Ils 6d were passed for payment. A sub-committee consisting of Messrs Brown, Butt, Archdeacon Williams, Rev. M'Ara, and Dr Pollen, were appointed to enquire into the general working of the hospi- , tai, and bring up a report for discussion at a special meeting, of which due notice will be given. Messrs Butt, Davis, and the Rev. McAra, were appointed as a visiting committee for the ensuing month.
