THE MARINER’S COMPASS.

Tnis beautiful Drama in a prologue and three Acte, is a dramatised version of the wellknown novel by Henry Leslie. Tho version to be produced next Friday (tomorrow) and Saturday evening for the benefit of the local Fire Brigade, was dramatised and arranged by Mt Neville Thornton, who has very happily succeeded in his efforts, He has made it the vehicle for introducing many beautiful scenic effects, particularly the Kentish coast scene. The vision of the Artic SoaS) with the Aurora Borealis, is a beautiful specimen of the scene painter’s art j the glimmering of the towering bergs in their icy sheen in the mid-night sun of the frozen north, is very characteristic and artistic. The old mil! with its ponderous wheel revolving, carries one’s thoughts back tn the dear old lanes and sylvan spots of England’s garden, Kent. Altogether we can confidently assert that no Dramatic Entertainment has ever been produced in Gisborne, so complete in every de tail as regards scenery, costumes, perfectlire in dialogue, as the Mariner's Compass, and judging from the many and careful rehearsals, we predict a successful issue to the venture, and only hope that it will be the same in a pecuniary point of view.
