Among the arrivals by the Rotomahana yesterday was the Hon. Dr. Pollen, M.L.C., who, we understand, visits Gisborne on business connected with the New Zealand Land Company. As has been long anticipated by those possessing an accurate know ledge of local matters, the Land Company of the East Coast, constituted as it is, and conducting its business operations upon a basis that exhibited a want of general tact and commercial knowledge, besides interfering unwarrantably with many settlers in this district, had naturally its days numbered. The end is now fast approaching; the hour of dissolution is at hand. The Land Company as it was becomes of the past; a new order of things arises ; and a new lot of men guide the machinery. The Auckland Company absorbs the local Company, and the Hon. Dr. Pollen appears in the transformation scene as Managing Director. From our knowledge of the learned Doctor we feel confident that the rd/r is one that will suit the distinguished legislator admirably. An able man, a man of honor and integrity, as Dr Pollen is we feel assured that many In this district who have hitherto . looked with 7.the greatest suspicion upon the Company and all its works, in new hands, and under the management of such gentlemen as the Hon. Dr. Pollen, its future success will look to it with every degree of confidence.
