(BY CABLE,— REUTER’S TELEGRAMS). SYDNEY, March 6. An immense and enthusiastic meeting to protest against the demands of the mission on behalf of the Irish National League was held here this evening. Sir Henry Parkes and several members of the Legislature, besides ministers of various denominations, were present, The meeting at one time was \ ery disorderly ; the speakers were unable to ob« tain a hearing, and free fights between the supporters of Mr Redmond and his opponents occurred. The malcontents, however, were forcibly ejected from the Hall, and resolu’ tious of protest were passed. The contest between Messrs. McElhone and Taylor for the representation of Mudgee took place to-day, and resulted in the defeat of Mr McElhone. MELBOURNE, March 6. Dr, Beaney has been elected representative of the North Yarra Province in the Legislative Council, The Australian overland lines are interrupted. This Day. In the Legislative Assembly last night the debate on the Address in reply to the Governor’s Speech, and Mr Service’s amendment thereto, was resumed. The principal speakers were Messrs, Young and Bent, and the Leaders of the Conservative party. The principal Liberals abstained from the discussion. Finally Mr Service’s amendment, setting forth that the Ministry do not possess the confidence of the House, Was carried without division, and the House then adjourned. It is expected that the Ministry will resign to-day.
