Difficulties have occurred in arranging for the proposed Intercolonial Match between the English Eleven and the Combined Australian Team, Several prominent Victorian representatives, who were expected to play, being unwilling or unable to do so, and it is possible that the proposed contest will be abandoned.
The Hon, Peter Lalor has been re-elected Speaker of the Legislative Assembly without opposition.. His election was proposed by the Hon. James Service, and seconded by Mr Graham Berry. .Signs of the Liberal-Conservative Coalition is hourly increasing. The trial of Station-master Thompson and Guard Hunt, for manslaughter, in connection with the Hawthorn railway accident in December last, concluded to-day. The jury returned a verdict of “Not Guilty” in each case.
Floating: of tbe Austaal. SYDNEY, Feb. 27. The work of raising the Austral is proceedings to-day, and the vessel has already been lifted seven feet aft. During the operations the principal pump burst, and the final result has been thereby delayed. This day.
The Austral is now actually all -at, but still low in the water, and not quite clear of the muddy bottom.
