POVERTY BAY TYBF OLVB’S ANITVAI. JraSiTISQ. The settling on the Poverty Bay Turf Club's meeting must on the whole be considered satisfactory. There were a few laggards as usual but most of those present “ parted " without being reminded a second time. Of course there were the usual bickerings and offers to lay wagers that this horse could beat that one over two yards and a half, fourteen ton up, for a half-penny cake aside, or some such silly wager. Men who do want to make a match do not as a rule proclaim their intention before a whole crowd, and as an almost invariable rule it may be put down that the first man to talk “ money down ” about anything is the last man you will see put down any. This was fairly exemplified last night. Captain Ferris, the Secretary to the Club has very courteously furnished us with the following list of payments made to the respective winners:—
