PAINFUL INCIDENT IN THE EGYPTIAN CAMPAIGN.
A soi.dteh who had been clandestinely married four or five months previously, •as at the commencement of the Egyptian campaign summoned from the Great Brook Street Barracks, Birmingham, on active service. No tidings were heard of him, and his wire, dreading that he had been killed, became seriously ill resulting in death under circumstances of a peculiarly distressing character. Still no news was forthcoming, and friends and relations thought that the deceased had been correct in her anticipations. The parents, however, delayed the funeral nearly a fortnight, in the hope that their eon-in law might see the body of wife, whose marriage they were unaware of nntil after the departure of the husband for Egypt. Having abandoned all expectation of the soldier's return, and giving him up for dead, it was decided that the funeral shonld take place. The hearse was standing at the door of the parents’ house in Barr Street, Birmingham and the body of their daughter was inside, when the mourners was surprised at the appearance of the husband, who until that moment had been ignorant of the death. The soldier had hurried to the house as soon as it was possible after his arrival in the town, and upon hearing the sad news his grief was intense.
