BOROUGH COUNCIL.

SPECIAL MEETING, A special meeting of the Borough Council was held last night, when there were present, His Worship the Mayor and Crs Lewis and Townley. The meeting was for the purpose of considering the question of the Fire Brigade Captain Winter and five other members of the Fire Brigade were present. Captain Winter stated that the Brigade were perfectly willing to hand over the engine and everything connected with it, to the Council. After some discussion it was decided to write asking whether they were willing to de so or not. Captain Winter gave an account of what was required, and all the Gisborne people thought it would be necessary to get a man from Napier or Auckland to come up to Gisborne and instruct the members as to drill. This, in his opinion, was a necessity, and he was decidedly of opinion that they wanted more hose. There was some conversation as to where the engine-shed should be located, it was a moot point as to whether it should be placed at the Ferry, or near King’s Mill. It was decided that ae soon a« a reply was received from the Trustees that the Committee should report to the Council, and then that the report should be decided by 'he Council. Captain Winter drew out a list of the requirements requisite. The meeting after some desultory conversation was adjourned.
