(by caxle.—beuteb’s telegrams). MELBOURNE, Fsb. 14. Arrived, this morning—Union Co. ’s steamship Te Anau, from the Bluff. The death is announced of the Right Rev.\ M. O’Connor, D.D., Roman Catholic Bishop \, of Ballarat. . This day. The police, last night, effected the arrest of Georgs Clark, of Clyde, Otago, on a charge of embeuling the sum of £4BO. The accused wm clerk of the Vincent County Council. Ho Is now detained in cnstqdy pending the arrival of the warrant from New Zealand. Tht laborers and drivers in the coal trade struck on Monday, and it is now feared that the strike will extend to the lumpers and others. They demand that the eight hours system shall be adopted. The niMters refuse to agree to the demand of the mon, and threaten to lay up the vessels engaged in the coal trade. The nominations for the General Election were made this morning, and the following candidates were declared duly elected without opposition for their respective constituencies Bonamara, P. B. Wallace; EmV . bourke, E. Harper; Brighton, T. Bent; I DundM, C. M. Officer ; Evqlyn, E. H. Came*" ron; Gippsland South, F. C. Mason; KUmore, T. Hunt; Knyeton, C. Young; Malden, J. Mclntyre ; Moruington, J. Gibb; Portland H. G. Wrieon. There now remain one handrod and sixty-six candidates for 75 seats, the polling for which takes place on the 22nd inst. Mr Murray opposes Francis and Williams, and Service and Patterson will contest the seat for CMtlomaine with Williams. In his speech this morning, Mr Wribric announced that he favored the formation of a Coalition Ministry, composed of the best men from every party in the House.
