After the confirmation of the minutes several letters were read, including one, in. forming the Committee of a Grant of £9OO for the erection of an infant School on the site of the present teacher’s residence, which is to be removed to sections 262 and 263 on the Palmerston road, which have been set apart by the Waste Landa’ Board at the request of the Hawke's Bay Education Board. A long discussion ensued as to the expense of removing the teacher’s residence, but as the matter was solely one which lay within the province of the Central Board to deal with ; the Committee did not consider that they had any power to make any recommendation. The subject of cleaning the school-house was brought forward, and on the motion of Dr Pollen, seconded by Mr Nolan, it was decided that .the sohoiil-honse should he cleaned at least once in a fortnight during the Bum mar months.

A letter wae read from Mr Morgan, the Head Master of the School informing the committee of the.fact that the School duties had recommenced, the attendance being an increase on that of the close of the last year. There were 413 on the roll, and the accommodation under the circumstances was very scant. Meiers. Johnston and McKay were authorised to countersign cheques. The Secretary, at the request of Mr Harries, alluded to the matter of the prise which was awarded for sewing. Mr Harries had informed him that he considered that some partiality had been shown in awarding the prize for sewing, the recipient of it having only received 75 marks, while his (Mr Harries'") daughter obtained 100. The committee, after a considerable discussion, oame to the conclusion that as no official information concerning the number of marks obtained had come before them, on its merits they could not entertain the question. The meeting then adjourned.
