(BY CABLE.—REUTER’S TELEGRAMS). MELBOURNE, Jan. 26. Telegrams are to hand, announcing that the Antwerp wool sales have opened with 4000 bales. Colonial wools have been offered ; prices are weak, and there is but little animation, only good qualities selling readily. The withdrawals of Australian wools comprise thirty per cent, of the total. The French buyers are cautious. This day. The Coroner’s jury found that the Creswick Mining accident was due to an error of judgment on the part of Nicholas, the mine manager, in consequence of a mistake in the survey. A rider to the verdict recommends the compulsory mode of signalling ; also that escape drives should be provided with ladders. Private telegrams are to hand which state that Young’s proposal to alter the date of the London wool sales has been negatived. SYDNEY, Jan. 26. The third match between the Hon. Ivo Bligh’s Eleven and the Australian Cricketers commenced to-day. The teams are exactly the same as those which played at Melbourne last week. The greatest interest is being taken in the match both here and in other Colonies. The weather was very fine during the day, and the ground was in good order, with a capital wioket. The Hon. Ivo Bligh won the toss, and sent his Team in first. They succeeded in putting together 247. Messrs. Read and Tylecote batted carefully but grandly for 66 each ; most of the other batsmen obtained double figures. The Australian bowling was somewhat loose, but the following is the score :—England, Ist innings : Barlow b, 28 ; C. J. Studa c, 21; Leslie nil, Steel b, 17 ; Read, 66 ; Barnes c, 2 ; Tylecote run out, 66 ; Bates c, 17 ; Bligh b, 13; G. B. Studd b, 5; Morley not out, 2; sundries, 11 total 247. Later. At the close of the day’s play the Australians had made 8 runs without the loss of a wicket. Giffen not out 6, Bannerman, not out, 2. The following is the bowling analysis of the Englishmen s first innings : —Spofforth, 4 wickets, for 72 runs ; Palmer, 2 for 38 ; Garrett, 2 for 54 ; Bannerman, 1 for 17. Saturday, 11 a.m. It has been raining here since seven o’clock this morning, and it is possible the International Cricket Match may not be resumed to-day. ADELAIDE, Jan. 26. During the sitting of the Wesleyan Conference here to-day, the Rev. Mr Patchell fell dead from an attack of apoplexy. Wheat, 5s 2d, market quiet, and little doing, the local demand having been satisfied. Forty thousand bags have been bought for the February delivery, and the same quantity of New Zealand tuscan wheat bought at 4s 9d is now afloat. Town flour, £ll 10s ; country brands, £lO 10s to £ll. In freights there is nothing doing for steamers to London ; for sailing to London, quotation is 15s nominal.
