Sin,—Having noticed in a local ot th* "Herald," of January 24th, a statement referring to the Mtabushmsnt of th* Native Land and Registry Office In Gisborne, mentioning that the institution is utterly neele**, as the Registrar had not been furnished with any book or records of any moment, and, therefor*, that a* far aa information is concerned th* offloe was a faro*, I took th* trouble to call on the Registrar, who Informed me that every book and reeord, a* will aa other document* relating to the Poverty Bay and Hawke's Bay Districts, with th* uception of certain papers which may be in Auckland or slaewhera under refsrsnos ar* at present in hi* possession. He is unable, therefore, to account for anyone saying that all information required has tq bs seat for to Auckland, or that there are no- means ot obtaining it at Gisborne. I ata of optaion that Editor* should see that their aeioraaM are based on facts before blindly publishing statements which are untrue. Information given in a newspaper should be sifted before It is inserted.—l am, etc., One who is urrsMWUD.
