Mb. Lovis Adolphus Durrien has been appointed by the Government as Auditor to the Gisborne Harbor Board, and wires that on Monday next he will be ready to audit the accounts of that body, requesting, however, that all the books and vouchers should be sent to him at Auckland. Very wisely, we think, the Board have decided not to let the books and papers leave the office. As
Mr Townley very sensibly put It, the Government ciould never have contemplated such an absurdity, Mr, Durrien is a paid Gov. eminent servant, and as such is perfectly willing to rest quietly in his suburban villa and have his work brought to him. We are, however, of opinion that with Mr Durrien it will be a case of “If the mountain will not come to Mahomet, Mahomet must go to the mountain,” and as the books are not to go up, the Auditor will have to come down.
