In the course of evidence it was sought to produce letters from Robert Neilson, Mrs Hamilton’s brother, to Priestley ; but the Judge ruled ■ them inadmissahle, as they were not pro* - duced at the Police Court, or notice of intention to prodrtoa them previously given.

Another man named William Davlaa fell from the tin stringers of a bridge st Deen Creek, about 80 feet. He is still alive, Maher, injured by the fall of earth at the Mountain Camp Creak, died last night at JO o'clock. Wm. Davis, who was injured yaatarday by falling; through a bridge, died at throe o'clock tl iis morning, MANAIA, This Day. Harve sting operations are going on briskly through* »ut the district. The weather w favorabl e for grain, but not for grass oreps, to the former about Ha wars and Normanby are larger than ever before known. Mr John Scott Oaverhill, an old Canterbury settler, has about 1000 acres of wheat, oats, and linseed. The yield of wheat will probably average 30 to 40 bushels; oats, 40 to 60 throughout the district. If the weather continues dry graders will suffer severely, the long spell of drought being unprecedented on the coast. GREYMOUTH, This day. The coal export last weak was 1,800 tons. The long period of fine weather has st last broken. The following are the losses by fire a few days ago at Ahaura:—J. Russell, blacksmith, £3OO, partially insured in the New Zealand Company, and Jos. McLaughlan, £250, uninsured ; Wm. Banks, £l6O, Insured in New Zealand Co.,- Robert Paul, uninsured, £l5O. The fire originated in MoLaughlan’s cottage, and the origin is unknown.
