THE BURIAL OF NIGHTSOIL.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—ln the County Council on Thursday, I notice by the Standard that Mr J. W. Johnson’s nostrils have been offended by the odour arising from the spot upon which I am supposed to deposit nightsoil. Mr Johnson, however, made a mistake when he expressed his opinion that I was bound to bury it. I have twice asked the Council tolet me deposit in a different place, agreeing to bury it so that it would become perfectly deoderised ; but no, the permission was not granted. I know that nightsoil, where it is directed to be deposited is calculated to injure the health of the town, for the simple reason that a wind from the west, must of necessity, waft over the town a most unpleasant odour.— I am, Sir, — John Hearfteld.
