SPORTING.
The Match, between Will Dayrell and. Director. This event, two mile, over hurdle,, name off on Saturday afternoon last on the Waerengaa hika course, and was witnessed by a large number of persons. Dayrell had the call m the betting, although Dire -tor was not with•ut a few fanciers. Harry Honor had the mount on the favorite, and W. Fox steered the grey. Mr Nasmith, who acted as starter, srnt the horse, away well together. Honor wont to the front and was never headed—in fact it was through his horsemanship that the brown horse won. he was evidently not in a good hum r, and appeared to shirk the hurdles. Fox on Director, endeavored several times to obtain the lead, but Honor would n.<t grant the concession. It was thought by the cognoscenti H at if Fox had not taken so much out of his horse by endeavoring to M.iune the premier position, but had waited until the last hurdle had been negotiated, and then mad- his effort, the order would have been reversed when the lie rars passed the winning post, as it wee however, Dayrell finished a length ahead of Director.
