(BY CABLE.—REUTER’S TELEGRAMS). MELBOURNE, Jan. 20. Saturday, 1.35 p.m. Bate, c 55 ; Read c 75 ; G. B. Studd, h I ; Morley not out, nil ; extras 10 ; total. 294. Australians : 10 runs dg wickets down. The cricket match between the English and Australian teams was resumed to-day. The former continued their first innings. Read and Bates, not ’out yesterday, again taking their place at the wickets. Both players batted well, and added over 40 to the score before they were separated. Bates wsus at length caught for 55, and Read caught for 75. G. B. Studd was bowled when he had made 1 run, and the innings then closed. The Australians then went in for their first innings, which closed for a total of 114 runs, Massie being the highest scorer with 44. January 21. At the close of the days play the Australian in their 2nd innings’had scored 28 runs for a loss of one wicket. Scores: Murdoch, b 17 ; Bannerman, not out 5, Blackham, not out 6.
