The police have discovered a quantity of gold, amounting to 2760z5., which it is al--1 ged formed apart of the bullion stolen from the ill-fated Tararua, Union Co.’s steamship, some time before the loss of that vessel. It appears that a man named Hunter, who was formerly steward on board the Tararua, • lied on Sunday last, and before his death he requested his friends to forward to his brother in San Francisco a box, the contents of which were to be kept secret. Suspicion was aroused, and the box, on being opened, was found to contain gold. The gold and information was given to the police. This day. There is but little further information regarding the gold discovery. The man Hinton (sic.) was formeily second steward of the Tararua, and died of consumption on Sunday last. He had been for a long time under police surveillance. The gold consists of single ingots, and was contained in an iron hound box. It is doubted whether Hinton was the sole robber, and the police are making further investigation. MELBOURNE, This day. The bakers dispute has been settled, and the men have decided not to strike.
