AN AMUSING INCIDENT.
A curious incident, which afforded considerable amusement to every one but the chief actor in it, occurred the other day at the drainage works in Christchurch. Some of the men emSed by Mr Stocks, the ;he works, while pursuing dinary avocations or excavating trench, and fitting the drain pipes.” were surprised at hearing unwonted sounds issuing from a 16-inch pipe lying ready to be placed in position. On examination, these were found to proceed from a small boy, tightly wedged in the pipe in question. The men at onco endeavoured to pull him ont, but so firmly fixd was he that this Al de of release Was out of the quemin. After some time spent in fruitless efforts to extricate him, it became evi. dent that the only way of doing so was to break the pipe. This was accordingly done, and the youngster, who was too much exhausted by his im. prisonment to give any satisfactory account of himsolf, was liberated frfcm his unfortunate position, and with tne aid of some other children made the best of his way from the scene of his mishap.
