Bank rate 5 per cent. Adelaide wheat, ex store, 49s ; New Zealand ditto, 43s 6d to 465. Adelaide flour, ex warehouse, 335. Australian tallow : Best beef, 42s ; best mutton, 44s 6d.
Jan. 3. The London morning papers announce that the loan of £4000,000 for the Victorian Government will be placed in the market on the 9th inst. The price of issue being at par. It has transpired that the Egyptian Government has proposed to the Powers that the present mixed international tribunals in Egypt should only be prolonged tor another year, instead of for an indefinite term.

Further heavy rain has fallen in the southern provinces and floods in the Rhine Valley have extended to a number of towns and villages which are inundated, and several persons have been drowned.

The French press, referring to M. Gambettaa'a death, aeaert that the atability of the Republic will not in any way be endangered by the loas it has suffered, but it declares that concord in the state ia an imperative necessity at the present time.

Severe storms of rain have been experienced in the northern districts of Austria, red klsMtrous floods have occurred, resulting in much destruction of property and loss of life.
