The new Parliament opened to-day. Mr E. Barton, one of the members for East Sydney, was elected Speaker. The election of Sir G. W. Allen being negatived by the Opposition by 51 votes to 47. Sir Henry Parkes announced that the Ministry had tendered their resisnation to His Excellency the Governor. BRISBANE, This Day. The Queensland revenue during the last puarter amounted to £505,000, an increase of £81,500 compared with the corresponding Seriod of 1881. For the half-year ending the Ist December the revenue was £1,160,000, an increase of £153,000 on the second half of the previous year. The expenditure in the December quarter amounted to £857,000.

ADELAIDE, This Day.

A fire broke out last night at the Post and Telegraph Office in this city. It originated in a store-room, but was fortunately discovered early, and was extinguished within two hours. The damage done was not serious, and principally arose from water and the hasty removal of goods.
