(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT). NAPIER. Waipawa Races. The Waipawa Racing Club’s annual meeting took place at Kaikora yesterday. There was beautiful weather and a large attendance, and all the arrangements were excellent. Handicap Hurdles, 40 sovs ; two miles, —Tatham’s Roebuck, 10st 41b, 1; Here* taunga, 2. At a mile and a half A.G. passed Roebuck and seemed like winning, but unfortunately fell at the last hurdle. Hack Hurdles, 5 sovs.—Pastime, 1. Waipawa Handicap, 125 sovs ; If miles. —Reihana’s The Laird, 7st 81b, 1 ; Tatham’s Romeo, 9st, 2 ; Martin’s Leonato, 7st 61b, 3. After a capital start Tealta and Romeo took the lead, the rest close up. At half a mile Tealta bolted, and Leonato struck a post, putting him out of the race. Romeo led by ten lengths, when The Laird challenged and won by a length. Maiden Plate, 25 sovs; 1A mile.—A. McLean’s Lubra, 1 ; The Laird, 2. Lubra got a bad start, but there were no others in the race. Railway Handicap, 40 sovs; 1 mile.— Douglas’s Mahanga, 1 ; Kuni, 2. Mahanga won easily. Hack Race, 10 so vs.—Aramoho, 1. Consolation Race, 10 sovs.—Romeo, 1. Woodthorpe Races. At the Woodthorpe Races the attendance was very large, and the arrangements very excellent. Handicap Hurdles.—Reihana’s Doubtful, 1 : Tidal Wave, 2. This was won easily. Hack Hurdles, lOsovs.—Chummy, 1. Maiden Race. — Ruddick’s Yankee, 1 ; Broughton’s Argyle, 2. Won by Yankee in a canter. Woodthorpe Han dicap, 80 sovs, If miles. —Reihana’s Never Miss, 7st6lb, 1 ; Rangipo, 2 ; Mischief, 3. Rangipo took the lead, but Never Miss aook up the running near home, and won by two lengths. Selling Race, 25 sovs.—Shoofly, 1. Welter Race, 30 sovs.—Ruahine, 1 ; Skylark, 2. The race lay between Ruahine and Skylark, the former winning by half a length only.
