Sir Garnet Wolseley issued the following [ order : —“The army in Egypt being broken , up and about to separate, tne Commanderi in-Chief wishes to thank all ranks for the I manner in which they have done their duty during the war. After the crowning success of Tel-el-kebir he had the pleasure of thanking them for their endurance, courage, and gallantry in the field. To these high military virtues the troops have since added steadiness of conduct in garrison, have maintained the character of the distinguished regiments to which they belong, and shewn the people of Cairo that her Majesty’s soldiers, British and Indian, are as conspicuous for their good behaviour in camp and quarters as they had already proved themselves gallant troops before the enemy. Her Majesty lias every reason to be proud of the soldiers who have served in Egypt, and in her name and on her behalf he thanks them for their valor and discipline. For himself, Sir Garnet Wolseley begs to assure them that he will ever remember and prize to the utmost the fact that he had the honor and good fortune to command them in this short campaign. This order is to be read at the parades.”
