This was an action for trespass, and very complicated, both parties claiming the land on which the alleged trespass took place. The case was unfinished on the Court rising. £pER UNITED PRESS WELLINGTON, This Day. Mr Bryce has received an answer from Wahanui to his letter. The reply is very brief. Wahanui disclaims on behalf of himself and his people any idea of throwing Tawhiao overboard, and says that Mr Brvce's words shall have due consideration, but does not intimate any intention of calling a Native Meeting. There has recently been erected in Karori Cemetery, a handsome monument in Scotch granite, in mamory of the late Dr Skae, Inspector of Lunatic Asylums. Mr Bryce to the Murimotu country, returned this morning. They left, accompanied by Major Scannell, on Thursday last, by Tokanu, e/i ro/tte to Wanganui. The object was to inspect the country with a view to opening out a road suitable for dray traffic, and likewise arranging the dispute between Government and certain Native owners of Murimotu Block. The meeting held with the Natives was large and influential. The leading chiefs of the hapu which had hitherto opposed the settlement of Crown’s title, agreed, after discussion to place the whole matter in the hands of Mr Bryce. At the conclusion of the meeting Mr Bryce resumed his journey to Wanganui, where it is understood he w ill meet Mr Rolleston, in whose company he will return again to Auckland. They talk freely amongst themselves about the construction of a through line of railway, as also the merits of various routes, and show a thorough European understanding of the importance of getting a line through their own lands.

CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. An influential meeting of citizens was held to-day to consider the reception of Sir Julius Vogel, who is expected here on Friday. It was resolved to arrange for a banquet one day next week to be fixed by Sir Julius himself, also to invite Lady Vogel to be present, and also to permit other ladies to take part,
