BOAT ACCIDENT AT AWANUI.

An accident occurred at Awanui last week, by which both loss of lift 3 and property was imperilled. The whale-boat owned by Mr Walker was bringing ashore from the schooner Gisborne a lot .of curbings for the Southern Cross Petroleum Company, but unfortunately the bow of the boat struck upon a rock, and a sea striking her she heeled over. Fortunately the accident was observed from the deck of the Gisborne, aud a boat at once was lowered and proceeded to the rescue of the crew who were all suved. Mr Walker, of the Awanui Hotel, had a somewhat narrow escape. The curbings, it is stated will be easily recovered, as the accident happened close to the shore, so that the delay will be only slight.
