Napiet BroOme, C.M.G., Lieut.-Governor of the Mauritius, has been appointed to succeed Sir William Robinson as Governor of Western Australia. The British Government has recommended General Sir Evelyn Wood to the Egyptian Government for appointment as commander-in-chief of the Egyptian army. At to-days wool sales, the catalogue cbmprising 4,100 bales, good competition was experienced, and prices were fairly maintained; WASHINGTON, Dec. 4. A message of President Arthur to Congress recommends the slower extinction of the National Debt of the United States than hoa been pursued for some time past. He furthet urges some abolition of taxation, and points out that it may be expected that the revenue from spirits will show a large reduction in the Customs income.
