The members of the Borough Council, Messrs Clarke and Tutchen, introduced the subject of the Quarry Reserve to Mi D. A. Tole this morning. Mr Clarke represented that plans and specifications had been sent from England for the construction of a tramway and furnishing same with rolling stock of all necessary descriptions to bring down lime, building stone, and road metal from the above reserve, and that until the property could be vested in some public body, preferably, the County Council, it would be quite impossible to carry on such an important work. Mr Tutchen represented that abundance of lime of a very superior quality could be obtained there, and at present our only recourse 'vas to import from Napier. Mr Tole said that if the Councils were so agreed a letter should be addressed to him stating the facts already known, and that he would urge the Government to agree to the investment of the property in the County Council. The Fire Brigade practice, and usual meeting, will take place this evening, and members are requested to roll up. Messrs Carlaw Smith and Co. announce that on Saturday next they will sell at their mart a choice selection of gold and silver jewellery comprising watches, lockets, chains, and very many other articles.
