THE POVERTY BAY ART UNION, 1882.

A List of Six Hundred Prizes of the Poverty Bay Art Union, held under the sanction of the Hon., the Colonial Secretary, appears elsewhere in the present issue. Some of these arc of considerable intrinsic value, not only as respects their money value, but have been selected with very great taste ami judgment. There are some exquisite specimens ot crystal and porcelain in vases, figures, and exotics ; while many of the pictures will be found worthy of a place on the walls of any gentleman’s residence. Not one of the books set apart for prizes, but is of value. The bindings of many of these will fairly rank as Art treasures. One prize, a complete drawing-room suite, with very chaste upholstery, has been the work of Mr Townley, at whose workshops it was turned out. It is valued at twenty-one-and-a-half-guineas in the list, but we are told it is worth much more than this sum. The Exhibits in this Art Union will be on view from 11 o’clock in the morning until 10 o’clock in the evening, when it will be very prettily lighted up with Chinese lanterns, ami the strains of a fine toned piano will be heard, to enliven ami 'entertain visitors as they promenade the room to view the variety ami beauty of many of the prizes to be offered. Tickets will be obtainable in the Hall, or at any time from Mr Townley, Mrs A. M. Browne, or of Mr Snyder I Irowne. There is little doubt but what the whole will be rapidly applied for, and therefore there should be no delay in applying for them.
