ALTHOUGH th’’« OMet has been in existence for a period o? more than seven yean, it is believed that the objects for which it was established are not sufficiently known or understood. It is desired to set forth in a concise form information respecting the business which this office undertakes 1. The charge of all kinds of money trusts such as Marriage Settlements, moneys to be invested for the benefit of Minors, moneys bequeathed for charitable objects, moneys the title to which is in dispute, or whose legal owner is unknown or cannot be found Ac., Ao. 2. The administration of the Wills of persons who by appointing the Public Trustee as their executor secure the guarantee of the State for the due fulfilment of their wishes; and avoid the risk consequent on the appointment of private persons as executors, who not unfrequenlly, though earnestly desirous of acting for the benefit of parties interested, fail to carry out legally the objects for which they were appointed, and consequently involve themselves and those whose interests they are striving to protect in costly and harassing litigation.
3. The administration of all estates of which no disposition has been made by will, whenever relatives do not wish to incur the responsibility of administration, or cannot from any cause obtain the necessary powers to act. In such cases it is the duty of the Public Trustee to discharge all legal debts as far as the assets extend, and divide the residue amongst the next of kin. 4. The administration of the estates of lunatics, lunatic patients, and convicts. 5. The charge of all lands lying waste and unoccupied of which the owner is unknown, or who has been absent from the Colony for ten years, having left no known agent. Entrance, 1 sov., on the ground. CONDITIONS. The Poverty Bay Jockey Club Rules will be strictly adhered to, unless where otherwise specified. Qualification to non-members, £1 Is. Members will not be allowed to nominate horses the property of non-members, except by paying £1 Is for each horse, hacks excepted. Three horses to start for each race, or only half the stakes will be paid. Any jockey riding except in colors entered and proper jockey costume (except hacks) will be fined £2 ; and this rule will be strictly enforced. Any person entering a protest shall deposit the sum of £3 with the Stewards, and such protest proving frivolous the amount shall be forfeited to the Club. All protests must be entered within 15 minutes after the race, or the Stewards will not entertain it.
No entry shall be received except on these conditions : vis., that all disputes, claims, and objections arising out of the racing shall be decided by a majority of the Stewards or Members of the Committee whom they may appoint, and their decision shall be final. Nominations for the Handicap Hurdles and Boxing Day Handicap must be sent (sealed) to the Secretary, and directed to the Masonic Hotel, Gisborne, not later than 8.30 p.m on SATURDAY, Nov. 25th, 1882, enclosing entrance fee and qualification, name, age, and color of horse. No entry will be received after that time unless by post letter (registered) or telegram, bearing that or previous date. Acceptances for Handicap Hurdles and Boxing Day Handicap (enclosing colors) on night of general entry at the Masonic Hotel, Gisborne, on Saturday, the 16th December, at 8.30 p.m. The stakes will be paid, less 5 per cent, commission, at the Waerenga-a-hika Hotll, on Thursday, December 28th, at 8 p.m. For any match run on the course £2 2s must be contributed to Race Fund. 458 M. 11.
