SPORTING.

! '• tij>s » far the Makaraka RacoaAfter careful consideration, and eonatant watching every morning, I have selected my tips, which will, I hope, be found to be correct. For the Hurdlks Tartar, Seagull, Wild Dayrell and Trovatore are the horses who are expected to start. As you have seen by my sporting notes I have a knowledge of the horses. Tartar is evidently the best of the lot, but, taking into consideration the Weight he has to carry, I am of opinion that he will fail to be first past the post. Seagull has very much improved, and with his impost should, under the careful training he has received, land home the winner. Wild Dayrell I shall expect to run very forward ; but Trovatore I certainly do not tancy. His reputation is good, and should ho be the horse he is represented to be nothing should stop him from winning. Now, out of the four, I shall pick them thus :— . Seagull 1 Tabtar (should he go for it) ... 2 For the Roseland Handicap I can only see in it Burnand’s best, with little Gisborne close up. It is difficult to place the horses in this race, but I don't think I will be far wrong if I put them in this order :— The Cat 1 Gisborne 2 The Maiden Plate I think will result in a victory for Seaboy. This horse has only lately been taken up, but shows a turn of speed which I was somewhat astonished at. Forest King is slippery, but Seaboy I think is very much more so. Placed thus I don’t think I’m much away from the result i— Seaboy 1 Foßest King ... 2 For the Corinthian Cue I will certainly select Carnival as the winner, although Trovatore may run up close. For the “Diamond Locket Trophy,"for horses nominated by ladies, I can only aay i that by the betting there is nothing in it bar | Filthy Lucre. In fact I heard, in consequence of heavy wagers having been made, I that the layers of odds tried to secure the i mare, but the owner refused, thinking it I would be unfair to the public. 1 Hotspur. osaiaTOßvaas baoss.
