CORRESPONDENCE.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, — At the meeting held last Monday evening, Mr McDonald, M H.R., in reply to tho question addressed to him by myself touching the status of Te Kooti, I received in reply a statement from our member that, during the administration of Sir George Bowen, then Governor of the Colony, that To Kooti by proclamation in the N.Z. Gazette had been included within the terms of a general anb nesty. After careful examination nf official records, and enquiry of those persons most likely to be best informed on tho subject, I find that no quasi pardon was ever given ; also of the fact that Te Kooti never having been arrested precludes him from participation in the late amnesty granted by the existing Government under direction of the present Native and Defence Minister, Mr Bryce, so far as the electorate of this district are concerned no official pardon, will condone in our opinion the offences of which Te Kooti is known to have been guilty.
Apologising for this intrusion on your valuable space.—Yours, &c., John Buodic.
