Poverty Bay Standard. Published Every Evening. GISBORNE: MONDAY, OCTOBER 23, 1882.

To-night, A. McDonald, Esq., M.H.R., j will address the electors in Parnell and Boylan’s Hall, and give an account of his | stewardship during the late Session. We ■ feel assured that all who have studied the ! Parliamentary telegraphic news in our columns will agree that we have in our member a gentlemen who has had the best interests of the district at heart. In a beehive there are drones and workers, and so it is in the House of Representatives. Fortunately we have secured a worker, not only with a desire to strain every nerve to benefit the district, but evidently with the power and ability to gain for us advantages and concessions even from a Government to which he woe, and is, opposed. Mr. McDonald has fought the fight fairly and well, and has given proof that he possesses an influence in the House which no previous member representing the Bay ever had. We have heard it sarcastically said that the Standard had “ratted" in favor of Mr. McDonald, but this we altogether disclaim, as since the transfer of the paper to the present proprietors we have supported our representative to the very best of our ability. And for very good reasons. Mr. McDonald having been elected for three years it would be simply madness to attempt to thwart his efforts to obtain for the district a fair share of the Government grants. Not alone for this; but further, that we are thoroughly satisfied that in Mr. McDonald we possess a representative of undoubted integrity ofpurpose and having our welfare at heart. We feel assured that to-night when Mr. McDonald gives a resumt of his doings in Parliament that each and all will see plainly that he has worked hard and successfully.
