Makaraka Race Meeting*.
The following are the weights declared for the race meeting to be held at Makaraka on the 9th of November. We are indebted to Mr A. Davis for kindly supplying them to us last evening ;—
Melbourne Cup Betting. (by cable.—reuter’s special). MELBOURNE, Oct. 19. Little Jack now stands at 100 to 12 for the Melbourne Cup. Melbourne Cup Scratchings. Mr H. Coleman’s b h Wizard has been scratched for the Cup. Napier Jockey Club Meeting. (PER UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.) NAPIER, This Day. At a meeting of the Jockey Club Committee programmes for the Boxing Day and Autumn Meeting were drawn up. The former includes :—Christmas Handicap, mile and a quarter, 60 sovs. Maiden Plate, 1 mile, 50 sovs. Handicap Hurdles, 2 miles, 50 sovs. Hastings Handicap, 2| miles, 150 sovs. Hack Race, 1 mile, 10 sovs. Consolation, 1 mile, 30 sovs. The date for the Autumn Meeting was fixed for the 15th and 16th of March, the programme being arranged as follows :— First Day.—Maiden Plate, li miles, 60 sovs. Welter Handicap, 2 miles' 100 sovs. (9st 71b minimum weight). Napier Handicap, miles, 500 sovs. Nursery Plate, A mile, 100 sovs. Hack Race, 1 mile, 20 sovs” Railway Handicap, f mile. 125 sovs. Second Day.—Grand Stand Handicap, 2 miles, 150 sovs. Provincial Produce, 1 mile, 100 sovs. Hurdle Handicap, 2£ miles, 150 sovs. Tradesmans’Handicap, 1A miles, 200 sovs. Autumn Handicap, £ mile, (for two and three-year-olds) 100 sovs. Consolation, 1 mile, 50 sovs. The late Spring Meeting of the Club resulted in a net profit of over £350 after paying for the new Grand Stand and all liabilities.
