BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH.—(COPYRIGHT) (REUTER’S TELEGRAMS.) Received Oct. 7, 8 p.m. SYDNEY, Oct. 7. In the concluding heats for the Punch Rowing Prizes to-day the results were a n follows :—Rush, 1 ; Beach, 2 ; Laycock, 3 : Trickett, 4. Later. At the conclusion of the final race for the Punch Rowing Trophies to-day Rush led by a length and a half. Beach (2), beating Laycock (3), by a couple of lengths, Trickett (4) was last for nearly the whole of the way. The race took place under favorable circumstances, the river being smooth. It is estimated that fully ’20,000 persons witnessed the race. MELBOURNE, This Day. The Orient steamship Liguria, from London via. the Cape has arrived at the Heads, and has been placed in quarantine owing to the prevalence of small pox at Capetown. A boat capsized in the river Yarra yesterday, two persons were drowned.
