Mr Percival Barker has for some years past been addicted to erecting bridges over the Taruheru, at Makauri, at his own expense. He has however “ jerked ” since the last floods, when the structure was carried away. He is now like Lord Ullin “left lamenting,” in consequence of the centre portion of the bridge at tho end of Peel-street being, if not drunk, at any rate
