A Lunar Observation on the Whataupoko Bridge.
1 stood <>.i the bridge at midnight: The night was wild and rough, 1 thought if things should be brought to light, Of which Davies has had enough. And a dream came o'er me stealing As I sat upon the plank. And I thought 1 saw a Company REE-sembling a Bank. 1 heard rude sounds liEEsounding In the rough ight, dark and drear. And rememb'ring my surrounding, I thought I'd better clear ; But lo ! How the scene was altered ! The bridge was turned around, And with steps which were weak and faltered, I sought to reach dry ground. But vain was my endeavor, For between me*and the bank There was a space of water, But never a single plank. Whilst waiting there I wondered why such things people do. And having carefully pondered, I'll tell it soon to you. AS (leave out the other one).
