BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH. —(COPYRIGHT) (REUTER’S TELEGRAMS.) Received Oct. G, 1,15 a.m. SYDNEY, Oct. 5. The provincial Bishops have selected the names of the Right Rev. Edward Parry, Bishop Suffragan of Dover, and the Rev. Richard Appleton, Fellow of Trinity College. Cambridge, for recommendation for the Bishopric of Australia and Tasmania. For the vacant Bishopric of Sydney and Primacy of Australia, Canon Fleming of York, whose name was selected by the Diocesan Synod, is no longer a candidate for the office. The contest for the Punch rowing trophies was continued to-day. The result of the various heats leaves Trickett, Rush, Laycock and Beach for the final races, which come off on Saturday next.
BRISBANE, Oct. 5. In the Legislative Council to-day, a division was taken upon the Warrego Railway Bill, and resulted in a majority of two for the Government. Received Oct. G, 1.10 p.m. MELBOURNE, This Day. The steamship Arawata, which left the Bluff on Tthe 29th ult., was sighted off Wilson's Promontory last night, and was seen going into refuge at the Cove. She made no signals, and the cause of the movement is therefore unknown.
