POVERTY BAY AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL SOCIETY.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —As Gisborne is too young at present to have a Bird and Poultry Show, and knowing that many residents here besides myself own valuable poultry ami birds, I think that if the Poverty Bay Agricultural and Pastoral Society would give a prize worthy of competition, several pens of fowls would be sent and would certainly make a valuable addition to the forthcoming Bhow. For the last two years I have urged several members of the above Club “to allot one good general prize for the best pen of fowls, and one for the best cage of birds on the grounds,” but without success. On one occasion I sent some fowls to the Show, and obtained a prize, which consisted of a card with “ First prize” written on it; but nothing to shew what the “prize” was for, or from whom, or from where I received it; so I consider no honor was conferred thereby, for what is the.e to p event any person obtaining a card nit l a first prize'' written on it,&M\. sticking it into a cage. The breeding of poultry for Show purposes is a matter well worth attention, and surely the Society might easily see their way clear to allot one good special prize by way of encouragement.
